Unknown Comic Strips

These are miscellaneous strips that I have that are of unknown origin. At the very least, the titles are not known. If anybody has any information, please email it to me. Your assistance is appreciated!

Mary Worth's Family daily by Dale Conner Ulrey, January 24, year unknown but probably from the 1940s. Removed from the "Unknown" section on January 17, 2005, thanks to George Hagenauer.

Unknown daily by Len Gamblin, date of publication unknown but possibly 1968. Copyright Consolidated News Features. Art board size: 46 cm x 21 cm. This could be a The Flutters daily, which ran in The Daily Mirror. However, I'm not certain so if anyone knows anything please let me know!

Paper covering front of the Len Gamblin daily pictured earlier, with the notation "Daily Mirror Hol. 4321 EXT 118". I'm not sure what it means; anyone have any ideas?

Unknown daily by Ben Wicks, April 6, year unknown. Copyright TSS. This may be a daily of The Outcasts, but I'm not sure. Ben Wicks' credits include the following syndicated strips: First Call (1965-1966), Cap'n Squid (1967-1968), Ben Wicks (1967-1969, 1978-1979, 1981-1987), Outcasts (1976-1985, 1989-1992), Wicks Week (1989-1990), and Wicks (1989-1992).

Unknown daily by L. F. Van Zelm, February 24, 1942. This strip was published based on a stamp on the back of the art, but I don't know the title (maybe the title is "News Item"?). Heavy art paper size: 23" x 7". Van Zelm was also responsible for the comic strips Rusty & Bub, The Potters (with McElroy), The VanGnomes, Farnsworth, and other early features. He was also the editorial cartoonist for The Christian Science Monitor, and this strip is believed to be from that publication. It is not confirmed, however.

Reverse of unknown daily by L. F. Van Zelm, February 24, 1942. The stamp on the upper right hand corner states "USED Feb 24, 1942", therefore it is likely that this strip was published.

Unknown daily by George Shanks, July 10, 1945. Art board size: 22" x 6". Pen and ink. This strip is possibly from the New Yorker.

Reverse of Unknown daily by George Shanks, July 10, 1945. This may be the title of this storyline of the strip.

Unknown daily by Guernsey Le Pelley, not sure of date (front has date of June 6, 1955 penciled at upper left corner, but back of strip has stamp saying "Cut Made May 29, 1942 Photo Engraving"; which date is correct?). Art board size: 23" x 6". Pen and ink. Guernsey was a cartoonist for the Christian Science Monitor, so this may have been published there. Or, it may not have been published at all (but that's unlikely based on the "Cut Made" stamp on the back).

Reverse of Unknown daily by Guernsey Le Pelley, date and year unknown. The stamp on the left hand corner states "Cut Made May 29, 1942 Photo Engraving", therefore it is likely that this strip was published.

Unknown daily by Paul Hodge, 1952, date unknown. Maybe the title is "Police Call"? There's a handwritten note at the bottom that says "Return to 6th Arm'd Div". This strip may have been printed in a military newspaper or periodical. Art board size: 17 1/2" x 5 1/2".

Unknown daily by John Beeps(?), no other information is available.

Unknown daily by Paul Fullen, no other information is available. This may not have been syndicated.

Unknown daily by PFC GHW, no other information is available.

Unknown daily by Winslow Mortimer, no other information is available. This may not have been syndicated. Though undated, it was probably drawn during the 1960 while Mortimer worked for various syndicated newspapers. Strip size: 23" x 7".

Unknown daily by Fran Matera, no other information is available. This may not have been syndicated.

Unknown baseball daily by Frank Williams, dated August 1950, no specific day. Notated "For State Ed.". The art was framed by the previous owner, with a New York/Detroit baseball box score glued to the front. This strip was published, but I don't know the title.

Unknown strip picturing children jumping, no other information is available. It appears to be part of a Sunday strip, but this may not have been syndicated. The strip appears to be fairly old, possibly pre-1930s. I'm guessing that it may be half of an old and very early "Reg'lar Fellers" Sunday by Gene Byrnes, but I'm not sure.

Reverse side of the unknown strip with children jumping. These sketches may be a clue as to who may have drawn the strip.

Unknown panel by Al Posen (?), date and year unknown. Art board size: 9 1/2" x 9 1/2", image area: 8" x 8". Written in blue pencil at the upper left is "It's Been Done"; maybe that's the title?

Unknown panel by Bill Dyer, date and year unknown. Art board size: 11" x 9 1/4". Bill Dyer was the cartoonist for the Knoxville (Tennessee) News-Sentinel and, while locally most famous for his Sunday morning "Dyergrams" of University of Tennessee football games, he created the syndicated comic strip "Patsy".

Unknown artwork by Jeane Hofmann, date and year unknown but possibly from the 1930s. Art dimensions: 11 1/4" x 14 1/4". This piece might not have been published, or may have been art for a magazine as opposed to a newspaper based on its size.
